Off-Shore oil-production in the Caspian Sea, Baku, 30.03.1998

1951 the Soviet Union started the construction of the artificial island Qum Adasi, to dril and explore oil from the Caspian Sea in front of Azerbaijanian capital Baku. The 53 pump and drilling plattforms are connected by 17 km of artificial bridges and the most of them are still operating.
The workers are employed by the national oil-company Azerneft and the monthly sallery is equal to 60 U$, which is just 10% of the sallery, workers employed by the international oil companies receive in Azerbaijan.
The workers are regulary maintaining the drilling machines and the oil wells.

1951 wurde diese künstliche Insel von der Sowietunion zur Erölfoerderung im kaspischen Meer angelegt. 17 km künstliche Stege verbinden 53 Förderpumpen. Trotz des permanenten technischen Verfalls arbeiten die meisten Pumpen noch.
